with so much discussion happening these days on this topic, said to myself, might as well get a top 5 Bollywood movies of 2006 (IMHO, of course) out…

5 Pyaar ke Side Effects

4 Khosla ka Ghosla

3 Jaan-e-mann

2 Rang de Basanti

1 Lage Raho Munnabhai

if i get the time and inclination, i’ll put reviews out for each sometime later…

nice list and i mostly agree…except for RDB getting second spot :) and Gangster missing out.

yaah machi what to do ? gangster barely lost out to side-effects, and rdb even more closely to Lage raho. i think it embellishes my proclivity to upbeat yarns.

In the current social context in India, I think Munnabhai rates head and shoulders above the rest of them. May be it is too loud and “filmy” outwardly, but very subtle and beautiful.

Of course everyone has his choice, I did not think too much of RDB.

Jaan-e-maan was very nice. Again, crude outwardly but nice.

I have no business to comment on the rest as I’ve not seen them. But for me 1 to 5 spots belong to Munnabhai for the sheer skill with which the script writer and director Raju Hirani has projected the timelessness of Gandhian principles. And Gandhian principles are Indian right to the core.
